About Us
Discovery Charter School's vision is to inspire passion for lifelong learning and to prepare every student with the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful citizens.
Discovery Charter School is a TK-8th grade school with an additional Dual Immersion (Spanish/English) option, committed to preparing students for success and to be lifelong learners. The CCSS are the fundamental requirements of all lessons and are brought to life through rigorous and relevant instruction.
Discovery Charter School exists to develop students who are independent productive citizens in their educational careers and beyond. Students acquire academic knowledge and skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, citizenship, and character. This happens within a context of integrated literacy driven curriculum focused on STEAM and based on all state content standards, including the Common Core State Standards (“CCSS”), Next Generation Science Standards (“NGSS”), the English Language Development (“ELD”) Standards, the History Social Science Framework, the Common Core en Español, and all other applicable content standards (hereinafter, collectively “State Standards”), National Core Arts Standards and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). At DCS, students are at the heart of all decision making.
We are focused on instructional and academic excellence. Our teachers spend an extensive amount of time planning integrated lessons that have real life connections. Through purposeful standards-based instruction, students leave our school prepared to be successful lifelong learners.

From Tuesday, September 8th, through Thursday, September 10, most of San Diego County, including Chula Vista and surrounding areas, will experience a heat wave. To ensure the well-being of students and staff, all schools will follow a rainy-day schedule, meaning recess, lunch, and physical education classes will take place indoors.

CVESD is hosting a district-wide food drive from October 19 through November 6, 2026. Students, families, staff, and community members are encouraged to contribute by bringing non-perishable food items to their participating school or the district office.

CVESD is proud to celebrate two schools receiving statewide recognition for their work to strengthen student support and create positive school environments. Mae L. Feaster Charter School earned Gold recognition, while Greg Rogers Elementary School earned Silver recognition through the California Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) 2026 recognition program.

Families with young children are invited to attend All About Preschool, a free event hosted by the Chula Vista Elementary School District's (CVESD) Early Childhood Education Department. This informative and engaging session is designed to help parents and caregivers prepare their children for a confident and successful transition into Preschool.

The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is kicking off year two of its Parent Ambassador Program for the 2026–27 school year, continuing its commitment to enhancing family engagement and collaboration with families across the district.

Parents/guardians can conveniently view and download their child’s California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) student score reports through CVESD's Home Access Center.

CVESD proudly congratulates Chula Vista Hills Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) on earning the 2025–2027 National PTA School of Excellence designation. This marks the school’s second consecutive designation period, following its recognition for 2023–2025.

CVESD welcomed over 1,500 families, staff, and community members from across the district to its 5th Annual Community Expo on Saturday, July 25, kicking off the 2026–27 school year.
